They had me at red.
The night before this wedding as I sat in my hotel room charging batteries and formatting cards, T.J. texted me about possible photo locations for the next day…included that of a red barn amidst a field of wheat. Now, that may not excite you, but for a Florida photographer obsessed with primary colors and used to shooting on sand and under palm trees, it was great to hear and my mind started racing. Weddings are on an usual script and if you break them down you essentially have a a similar schedule and traditions at every one. Trying to make that different at each and every one is the challenge and something I really try to push myself to do. Luckily for me, T.J. himself is a great photojournalist himself and catered the day – and the scheduling – to make picture at the right time of day when the golden hour hit. After a day of flying and driving through pounding rain from D.C. to Virginia, I thought we were going to have a wet and stormy wedding, which I was preparing for. I was so happy for T.J. and Sarah, as we all woke up to an absolutely perfect day without a cloud in the sky over the beautiful Belle Isle State Park in Virginia.
Sarah was beautiful in her gown, and the park couldn’t have been more lovely as the sun set across their venue. There was a great moment at the end of the night as I chatted with T.J. about the day and he paused and exhaled a sigh of relief saying “Everything was just perfect.” I was just happy to be a witness to it and press some buttons documenting it. It’s awesome to be a photographer’s wedding photographer and have the freedom to just do what I do for some wonderful cats.
Congrats you two and thanks for having me!
